Acoustic Jazz/Blues/Motown

“SWAG (the band) is based in Albuquerque, NM, and plays tunes from a variety of musical traditions, including jazz, blues, Motown, folk, musical theater, and rock. Vocalist Abby Maxwell fronts the band, with a little help from her friends in the string section, Rick Dorin on fingerstyle guitar and Guy Lagerway on bass.  

SWAG band is fronted by singer extraordinaire Abby Maxwell. Abby was born and raised in Newport, RI, and grew up listening to the local music orbiting the famed jazz and folk festivals of Newport. Abby trained in musical theatre at Boston University, and cut her musical teeth singing jazz and blues in the clubs of Chicago and San Diego. Abby’s versatile vocal style reflects her multicultural heritage, which includes African, Irish, and Native American traditions. Abby enjoys performing in jazz, blues, Motown, country, and popular music styles; she also plays hand-percussion and mouth-trumpet with the band. The string section is led by Rick Dorin on acoustic and electric guitars. Rick grew up in the San Francisco area and picked up the guitar at age eight; he has his own rhythmic style of fingerstyle guitar picking. Rick and was part of the folk and rock scene of the San Francisco; he moved to LA and played with Cat Scratch Fever during the 1970s. On funky bass and vocals is Guy Lagerway. Guy grew up in the Catskill Mountain area of New York; he is a 25 year veteran of the New York club scene where he worked with some of the finest rock, jazz and funk players in the country.”
